What makes us different?
Our wine cellars are truly custom – they are built from scratch with each and every component constructed specifically for the wine cellar it’s going into. None are made from pre-assembled modules. All of the components are built by hand at our shop in Vancouver, BC, using traditional methods and techniques. Our shop and equipment have been customized and modified expressly to attain the superb end result our customers are searching for. This enables us to produce distinctive, one-of-a-kind wine cellars that bear the mark of a master craftsman.
Our Objective
We love wine in all of its diversities, and when we collect it, we long to share it. The Materials
We do not use MDF, particleboard, melamine or any products of this nature - there is no added formaldehyde in any of our wood products. Sleeping Grape Wine Cellars specialize in sustainably harvested B.C. hardwoods including Maple, Cherry, Alder, Birch and Beech. We also have access to exotic woods like Anegre, Black Walnut and Brazilian Cherry. The majority of our wood arrives rough-cut and kiln dried from a local mill. We take the wood from this form right through to completion of your wine cellar. Solid hardwoods are used in the construction of the wine racking and doors while components that require more stability, such as our cabinets and countertops, are made from domestic core, furniture grade plywood, with hardwood veneers and finished with solid hardwood nosings.
Our stains are hand rubbed into the wood in order to intensify its beauty and character. Although this method is more labour intensive than spraying stains on, it does not obscure the attributes of the wood, resulting in a far more impressive effect. To seal and protect the wood, a low VOC, water based, clear lacquer finish is applied.
Sales and Service
Clients repeatedly comment on our prompt, professional service and how knowledgeable we are on wine cellar construction. Sleeping Grape Wine Cellars aims to eliminate your uncertainties and we do this by answering all of your questions and providing the direction that will lead you to the wine cellar of your dreams.
Green initiatives
We use sustainably harvested local hardwoods and low VOC finishes in an effort to reduce our impact on the environment. Our cutting is strategized to minimize the amount of waste material and, wherever possible, these materials are streamed for reuse. Lower Mainland ranchers use our wood shavings for bedding their livestock and our delivery vehicles are fueled by bio-diesel. We continue to look for new ways to improve our processes in an effort to become greener still.
